Dotted Blue Line Cloud in iTunes (mac)

I've imported a few songs (I've tried importing from both a CD and from an mp3 file on my desktop) to my iTunes library. The songs will play on my mac iTunes, but they have a dotted blue line cloud next to them. They won't download (or upload, I guess) to my iTunes or sync with my cloud library or my phone. I've tried to Update my Cloud Library, I've check that my library is set to sync (it is), and I've checked to see that my music library has a folder on my mac. Any suggestions on how to get these songs synced?
