my Panasonic tz200 camera has a lot of artistic settings for use while taking photos, but these effects are removed by apple when these images are transferred to the iMac and/or iPhone. How can I prevent this happening?

Are you importing the photos as RAW files? Then you are only saving naked RAW data right from the sensor and not the Camera effects. If you want to import the photos with all camera effects applied, you have import the photo developed by the camera, as TIFF or JPEG files, not the naked RAW data from the sensor.
