Is it possible to install new hardware to make a mid-2011 iMac compatible with Big Sur? My computer works fine but it's not compatible with the newest updates and I don't want to buy a new computer.

Sorry no, there is not. The only way that you can run Big Sur, is to get a 2014 or newer iMac.
Unlike with the 2010-2012 MacPro and Mojave, Apple does not endorse, support, or recognize any hardware upgrade path to Big Sur with 2011 iMacs.
However if you are still using 10.11 you could upgrade to 10.12 or 10.13.
