Not enough disk space

I tried to update my OS and couldn't do it because it said I did not have enough disk space. I cleared trash, deleted unneeded files but the "other"category still says I have 71 GB. There are no movie, music or photo files on computer- how do I clean out the other category- system is only 14 GB
