Bluetooth headphones get disconnected with Big Sur

I have Sony WH-CH710N bluetooth headphones that worked fine with Catalina but since updating to Big Sur get disconnected after about 5-10 seconds.

  • I have tried restarting and factory resetting the headphones
  • I have reset the bluetooth module
  • I have deleted bluetooth preferences and restarted my computer (iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) several times
  • I have checked for interfering bluetooth signals and ensured none are present


Does anyone have any suggestions?

iMac 27″ 5K, macOS 11.0

I was able to fix the problem with the following steps:


  • Open Terminal app
  • Type in: sudo rm -rf /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/HAL/
  • Restart your iMac


Hopefully this works for you. It was a huge relief for me.
