In addition to the excellent advice offered here, I offer the following thoughts. First, just to explain, memory is the term for RAM, which is operational. Storage, is what you are referring to, which is where the hard drive installs/stores its data. If you can not clear sufficient storage, you might consider purchasing an external hard drive and connecting it to your Mac. You can copy files such as photos, etc to the external drive and then remove them from your HD by putting them into the trash and emptying it. You may have to format the drive to match your hard drive's format. Connection is easy with a USB cable and now days they are reasonably priced.
