Curration process of my photos library is frozen and Photos won't start the facial recognition feature

Hello,

I just got the 2015 Mac Book Air from my sister but it doesn't have enough capacity for all the photos I had on my iPhone.

I created a Photo library on an external hard drive however the "curration" fonctionnality of the Photos app seems frozen and the facial recognition feature won't start the analysis of my library.

I thought it was an issue with MacOS Catalina but it doesn't seem to work on MacOS Big Sur as well.

As terence says, make sure the external drive is set up as described here:

What format is the external drive? It needs to be formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or afps

Oh ok, it's formatted in exFat but because the library worked fine I thought it wasn't an issue, thanks
