lightening earphones not working

My lightening earphones that came with iPhone se 2020 are not working. I plug it in but the sound still keeps coming from the speaker. Anyone else have this issue ?

Check the charging port for lint or other debris and see this:

If your headphones don‘t work with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
