Will an apple pencil 2 ever work with the gen 7 ipad?
Absolutely not. The first and second generation Apple Pencil use an entirely different hardware interface for both pairing and charging the Pencil.
The first generation Pencil uses the Lightning interface on compatible models of iPad that feature a Lightning port. By contrast, the second generation Pencil uses a magnetic/inductive interface.
As such, the two interface technologies are entirely incompatible; it is obviously impossible to add missing hardware via a software update.
