not successful loading current operating system

I have a MacBook Air OS X (10.9.5) and need to update the operating system so it will work better. Currently, it is not cooperating with Google which I use daily as a teacher.

I could not upload because it said that I had no more room/disk space. I have deleted so much and should be able to make the download, but even after following the steps, it still keeps current update.
