how long to purchase applecare

I purchased a MacBook Pro 16" and when I got home I looked into buying AppleCare, but the site told me my MBP was ineligible for further coverage. Anyone have any idea what this is about?

You must purchase AppleCare+ within sixty days of purchase of the machine.

Where did you purchase it?

If it was purchased from a store other than an Apple Store and was returned and then resold to you, the sixty days from original purchase may have passed.
