Best value $ MAC to use by old guy, new to Mac and video editing using iMovie?

I’m an old PC user and recently did some HD video interviews with my younger brother who has terminal brain cancer about his “life story.” The digital video is recorded in MP4 format and I’ve tried several PC editing tools and have just about given up on their claims of being “intuitive.”

I’m ready to try a Mac and would appreciate your recommendations on

which Mac that runs iMovie would be best for an old codger, novice video

editor, on Social Security income.

Cheers,

Pat

Hi, ptkcso,

You can look at the iMacs in this link:

Either the 21.5 inch or the 27 inch iMac would work fine.

Hi, ptksco,

All of the new Macs will run iMovie, and iMovie is preinstalled free. The least expensive one is the Mac Air. I would get at least 8GB of Ram.

Unfortunately, there have been lots of glitches associated with current iMovie 10.1.15 and Catalina 10.15.6. So you might want to wait a bit before buying a Mac that is running those versions. Instead, buy one that is running Mojave as the operating system and iMovie 10.1.14 or earlier. That combination works fine.
