Getting all my photos from a external hard drive to iphoto

Hi, I just wanted to know how to get all of my photos from an external storage to my new mac.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

How are they organized on the external drive?

The obvious option is to simply use the File->import facility in Photos.
