To be completely accurate they have to be Thunderbolt ports: Identify the ports on your Mac - Apple Support. If your monitor implemented Mini-DP that connection will only support one monitor.

How? I tried using a docking station but only mirrors the display to both monitors
1) your dock must support dual displays
2) go to System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab and untick the box to mirror displays
