can you airplay through the Apple TV app

Having the Apple TV app on your Roku, doesn’t give your Roku AirPlay capabilities. You should see these as independent features. Roku is not currently licensing AirPlay technology for use on their devices.

Not exactly sure what you are wanting to do, but you can Airplay via the Apple TV device regardless of what App may be highlighted on your Apple TV home screen.
