MacBook air refusing to update to 10.15.6 and overheating

Hi everyone I could use some help. Has anyone had the issue with their MacBook Air (2019) not exactly overheating but being very concerningly hot (for no reason what so ever - even with all apps being closed and nothing running) and refusing to update to macOS 10.15.6. I tried to update it and always get the start screen of the update - the usual - that says it will take a couple of min and it may shut down for a few more but the tab on that screen never loads above 3% cca. You see that screen for a few seconds and then my MacBook restarts but the update isn’t installed.

Please refer to If kernel_task is using a large percentage of your Mac CPU. Although its title does not specifically address your concern, following the links within it eventually take you to the following passage:

"If the fans in your Mac run fast even when it isn't experiencing heavy usage and is properly ventilated, you might need to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac."

Do that first.

If you are still unable to update macOS, try starting your Mac in Safe Mode: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac. While in that mode, attempt the upgrade again.
