Load the serial number into the Apple warranty check as mentioned, and connect the device to an iPhone or iPad and see if the Apple hardware reports the presence of Apple chips within the AirPods or AirPods Pro.
The serial number alone can be copied.
The internal hardware of AirPods or AirPods Pro is rather more difficult to copy.
If the seller seems at all likely to disappear after the sale, find a different seller.
