Pairing new Apple Watch.

I am trying to pair my new Apple Watch with my iPhone. My phone is a 6 and has been updated to 12.4.8. When I try to pair it it says the phone is out of date, which it isn’t. Then it tells me the watch has to be updated which I can’t do until I pair them. Help.

You cannot pair an Watch running watchOS 6.x with an iPhone 6.

You need at least iPhone 6s running iOS 13 or later.

what is the watch model? please note the below from apple webiste

Apple Watch Series 5 and Apple Watch Series 3 require an iPhone 6s or later with iOS 13 or later.
