Hello, welcome to the Apple Users Community.
It's an educated guess but I would say yes.
Your system is 10.11 El Capitan, yes? First released in 2015, if you haven't upgraded since then, I'm going to say you have an iMac older than 5 or 6 years which means it's not going to be an issue at all.
I could be wrong, which happens a lot but I'm going to take a flyer on this one and say you should look at this link

Best of luck

Your 2012 iMac should work with the proper adapters.
Thanks for the link Ikrupp, it was helpful and informative (if using a Macbook to link with an iMac). However, i’m trying to link my Lenovo laptop and use the iMac as an external display. Is it still possible?
If your iMac is late 2014 or later then no.
i’m using a late 2012 model but it has 2 Thunderbolt ports, still not possible?
I’m using El Capitan but my iMac is a late 2012 model, one reply i got said if it is not a 2014 model then chances are it won’t work. Can you help explain to me why is it so?
Not possible with any Windows based PC. Never has been. I wish you would have explained that at the beginning.
I see, i should’ve explained myself more clearly then, but I am still appreciative of the effort in helping me answer my queries. Thanks for sharing your expertise lkrupp.
