Disappearing menu bar

I just purchased a MacBook Pro with Catalina. How do I keep the menu bar visible. This was not a problem in the other OS I used on other Macs, and this is driving me nuts.

I've looked in Preferences, Finder Preferences, and asked this question on the internet. I am not using full screen mode.
