2 Factor ID for sign in please help

Folks I am an old timer that doesn't have a smartphone. Recently for some reason I mistakenly must have signed up or prompted for two factor authentication for my apple ID. I have never sent a text in my life. I can't receive texts.

How can I go back to just having a password and maybe a challenge question online?

Can somone inform me how to go back to a simple password?

Thank You

From the article below. If it has been on longer than 2 weeks, you can't turn it off.

Can I turn off two-factor authentication after I’ve turned it on?

If you already use two-factor authentication, you can no longer turn it off. Certain features in the latest versions of iOS and macOS require this extra level of security, which is designed to protect your information. If you recently updated your account, however, you can unenroll for a period of two weeks. Just open your enrollment confirmation email and click the link to return to your previous security settings. Keep in mind, this makes your account less secure and means that you can't use features that require a higher level of security.

See Get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204974

"If you can’t sign in, reset your password, or receive verification codes, you can request account recovery to regain access to your account." This link takes you to:

Recover your Apple ID when you can’t reset your password https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204921which it looks like you will need to use.

“Account recovery might take a few days or longer, depending on the specific account information you can provide to verify your identity. After you request account recovery, you'll get an email with a confirmation of your request and the date and time of when you can expect to regain access. … When the wait period is over, Apple sends you a text or automated phone call with instructions to regain access to your account.” Read the whole document carefully.
