How can I successfully record my dramatic saprano voice on garage band without distortations

Are there special settings I must use in Garage Band to successfully record my Dramatic Soprano voice in Garage Band. So far I'am unable to record my voice successfully using an external Yeti Blue microphone with my MacBook.

Is it only the loud parts that are distorted?

Get farther away from the mike - if it is the mike that is distorting.
Turn the level down if it is Garageband that is distorting.
