With my iPhone 7 I connect my headphones through the charger port but the music would still play through the headphones

Do i need specific headphones for iphone 12? Hi, ive recently buy iphone 12. When i try to use my headphones, the music do not play very well. Then i try other headphones, it doesnt connect at all with my phones. So, is it normal? Do i have to buy specific type of headphones for iphone 12?
