Code won’t pop up on screen for iOS pairing

lost my Apple TV remote and the code fo pairing shows on my phone not on the tv screen. Can’t pair them. It’s 3rd generation.

You would need a physical remote in order to pair with the remote app. Replacements can be purchased through Apple. The alternative would be to restore the Apple TV and then pair with a bluetooth keyboard during setup
