Hello wee granny p,

Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities. Yes you can play music on your iPhone without subscribing to Apple Music. If your music is located in an iTunes Library on a Mac or a PC you will need to sync it via iTunes with your iPhone. This resource can help guide you through the steps of syncing your music. Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer. If the music you wish to play was originally downloaded from the iTunes Store you can redownload the content right on your iPhone. Here's how you can download your previous purchases. Redownload apps, music, movies, TV shows, and books.

I hope this was helpful!

Have a great day!
