service battery warning

2017 Macbook Pro 15" Retina w/ Touch Bar suddenly shows "service battery" warning with 4101 charges remaining. I tried reseting SMC and other problem solving without a success. What could be the problem? Do I need to spend money on replacing the battery?

It's quite likely that Mac's battery needs to be replaced:

Service Recommended: The battery is performing normally, but its ability to hold a charge is less than when it was new. You may want to consider replacing the battery.

Before finally reaching that conclusion though, please read follow all the instructions in If your Mac battery status is "Not Charging" including all the links at the bottom, followed by If your Mac battery won’t charge.

After you exhaust all those potential corrective actions, read Find how to service or repair your Mac.

They are designed to last that long, after which they are "considered consumed" whatever that means. It does not mean it is certain to last that long or that it won't last longer.

About Mac notebook batteries explains it in greater detail.

After methodically executing all the instructions I described, the next step requires contacting Apple. No one on this site can know what their recommendations may entail, nor how much or even if it will cost you anything to fix. Find how to service your Mac, and let Apple take it from there.
