Preview window in mail app is gone and I cant get it back

Preview is not working on my mail. I have clicked and unclicked the show side preview and that window will not come up no matter what I have tried. Any ideas?

iMac 27″, macOS 10.15

Preview Pane has disappeared Hi, my preview pane has disappeared. I am not using classic mode. I have tried moving the cursor from right to left but the mail preview does not come into view. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Why does an open mail window not come up when you click on Mail It used to be that if you had an open Mail window and clicked on the "Mail" icon, that window would come to the fore, and you could see your Mail. Now, you can click on the Mail icon all you want and nothing will happen - no new viewer window, no existing viewer, no nothing shows up. You have to go look in the icon bar for pre-existing "Mail" instances, or go to the Mail window and click twice to "Open New Viewer Window". What is all this clicking about??? who does it serve???

Hover the cursor over the right edge of the Mail window until you see a left pointing arrow cursor. Click and drag the cursor to the left until the preview pane pops open. You have to drag it at least half the width of the window.

You're welcome. Unchecking "Show Side Preview" from the View menu should fix that.

thought so, tried that but no preview pane appears below. restarted but no change. happy to at least have side pane though....
