Using iMac (20-inch, Mid 2009) as Display

How can I use my iMac (20-inch, Mid 2009) as a Display for my MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)?

iMac, macOS 10.13

Only the 2009/2010 iMacs with 27" screen work...

27-inch iMac models introduced in 2009 and 2010: Use a Mini DisplayPort cable to connect your iMac to a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 port on the other Mac.

It is not possible, your 20" does not have the hardware to support that functionality. Sorry there are not work arounds either. Your best option is to buy an external display for the MBP.
