My iPhone messages got deleted how do I restore them

If you have messages turned on iCloud and they are deleted, they're gone. If you don't sync messages with iCloud and you have a backup containing the messages from before you deleted them, you can restore your phone from that backup. But your phone will then be restored to the time the backup was made.
