I have QuickTime 10.5 running on a Mac Mini with Catalina. When I try to open it it immediately crashes, triggering a crash report. The crash report mentions EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) and a million other things, none of which I understand. Everything else seems to be working normally. The Activity Monitor doesn't register any opening of QuickTime before it crashes.

A reinstall of macOS will probably fix this, but it's a bit overkill I think.
You might find deleting ~/Library/Preferences/QuickTime Preferences will help so try that first.
(That's QuickTime Preferences inside Preferences inside Library inside your Home directory.)
Ok. Boot into recovery mode (hold down Command-R on startup) then reinstall macOS.
This won’t remove your data.
Thanks for your help. The file deletion didn't work, I'm afraid.
So I reinstalled as you suggested - thanks again for that - but I'm afraid Quicktime still doesn't work. It crashes in exactly the same way as before.
