If I open Time Machine from Mail, it shows no data. It will not me go back in time.
Time Machine is fine with Finder.
Time Machine and mail worked fine with Sierra.
Spent a long time with support and they duplicated the problem. The only suggestion was to go back to Sierra
Anyone know about a real fix?

Exact same problem in safe mode.
mail works fine
entering time machine, mail shows messages currently on my machine
cannot go back in time by any of the available ethics

Good idea. I've seen a number of people with the same mail/TM problem. I did contact support.
Was hoping someone here had found a solution.
Somehow this has been marked SOLVED, but it isn't. Maybe in a soon upcoming patch.
