Email syncing

I am suddenly having trouble syncing email across iPhone and Mac. (I use Gmail, IMAP.) When I delete a mail item on the iPhone it automatically deletes on the Mac. But when I delete an item on the Mac it does not delete on the iPhone. What do do?

Your Mac may not be having an active internet connection. Please check.
