Bypass Activation Lock

My friend bought an iPhone from someone else for her daughter. However, the iPhone has the Activation Lock, which is still connected to previous owner’s iCloud/Apple ID account. She is unable to contact the person who sold it to her and wants to be able to use the device. Is there a way to bypass or sign out of the previous owner’s account without the password?
