Hi IBM 1620Dude,

Yes, Numbers can import (and convert) an Excel spreadsheet. The original Excel spreadsheet (document) will be unchanged. Numbers makes a copy under the Numbers file format.

The conversion may not be perfect (for example, Numbers does not support all the Excel functions; missing functions will be replaced with the last Excel result). The layout may look different because Excel uses huge sheets of cells, whereas Numbers uses several tables (and other objects) on each 'canvas' (Sheet/Tab).

Excel Sheets (Tabs) may or may not import as Numbers Sheets (Tabs).

Several methods:

  • Double click on an Excel document in Finder;
  • Drag an Excel document onto the Numbers icon in the Dock, or onto the Numbers icon in your Applications folder;
  • Open Numbers and Menu > File > Open then navigate to the Excel document.

You can also Export from Numbers back to Excel. Give the file a new name and/or a new folder if you want to avoid overwriting the original Excel document.

Regards,

Ian.
