My new apple watch

I recently bought an Apple Watch series 3 and when I try to connect it to my iPhone 6 it says I need to update but when I try to it says I’m up to date

A new apple watch 3 has watchos6 software installed,this requires a phone with ios13 or higher,an iphone 6 will only update to ios12,phones with ios13 or higher are an iphone 6s or higher.
