I'm trying to erase an admin account (one of two) in MacOS 10.15.2. All steps goes well until the end. The 'system preferences' gives me the notes; "Erasing account..." and " 'User groups- and Settings' are deleting the user account XX and saves the home folder on a disc image". This is blocking the System and has been going on for 1hr+. Any ideas?

In Finder what shows if you "Get Info" on that user"s home folder? V big?
Sign into the account and try deleting files from within, empty trash after every large load of data.

You should have picked the option to delete the folder not the one to keep it as an image.
Restart Mac and try again (if it is still there)
The image will be in /Users/Deletedusers

Followed your advise using the 'Delete the home folder' option, Peter. After approx. 2 hrs the system is still 'Erasing account...'. Corrupt?
Peter. I followed the advise above your Dec 31, 9.37AM response, rebooted and 'voila!'; user gone. The 'System Pref.' just didn't update. Thanks for your help. HNY!
FWIW, it is always a good idea to keep a second admin account on your machine.
You may never need it, but in the rare cases where the main account has some problem, it can be a lifesaver.
