My ipad is disabled and I can't get past that.

I have restarted the ipad but that didn't help.

It won't let me put my password in.

Once the device is disabled, you will not be able to enter the passcode. You will have to restore the device to get it working again, then you can enter or change a passcode. See the instructions here, If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support
