Random contacts disappearing after iOS update

Random contacts have disappeared including my daughter. They are ok on phone but not on iPad. Then when I go into contacts and edit them suddenly there’s no edit function! What is happening at Apple it’s just making life difficult stop with useless updates that add nothing to basic functionality!
