If I subscribe to Apple Music, download songs, and subsequently discontinue my subscription, do the downloaded songs remain on my device?
No. Apple Music subscription songs require the subscription to be active. You don't own the songs, you are merely granted access while you pay for the subscription.
When you cancel the subscription, they will be disabled, and eventually removed from the device.
