Menus are unreadable in iMovie
Why do my menus become unreadable in iMovie when editing a file?

It has to do with the system preferences on your Mac. Fortunately there is an easy solution. Click on System Preferences/Accessibility/Display and uncheck the boxes that refer to "increase contrast" and "reduce transparency". That should do it.
