If you have Time Machine (or another backup sytem) running, you should b able t recover a previous version of the file.
Once you have saved a Page document, Pages automatically saves any changes at frequent intervals.

Pages > Menu > File > Revert To

See Yellowbox's solution provided that you manually saved and named your Pages document just once before it was closed and reopened. It is a good habit to manually save and name a Pages document before you begin to add content. That way, autosave will be enabled and spare you considerable grief in content recovery.
With the same save conditions as in the first paragraph, if Yellowbox's solution does not reveal your lost content, then Barry's solution is your only hope — provided that autosave was enabled in Pages, and you chose to use Time Machine.
