Unable to access adobe acrobat

I am unable to open PDF files and get the following message:

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC cannot be opened because of a problem.

Check with the developer to make sure Adobe Acrobat Reader DC works with this version of macOS. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and macOS

I am using a macbook pro with High Sierra

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.13

Very odd you'd be getting a message a higher version is installed. That shouldn't be possible since the link will only download the latest version directly from Adobe.

Yes, the easiest solution may be to simply put the Reader that's currently in the Applications folder in the trash and delete it. Then install it again.

1st let's test this...

Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...

Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.

Does it work in the new account?
