iWatch 5 will not pair with iPhone 6

I have updated my iPhone 6 with iOS 12.4.3 and am trying to pair my new iwatch 5. When doing so, the MyWatch app will not pair asking for an iOS update which I have already completed.

It isn't possible to pair that watch with an iPhone earlier than the iPhone 6s.
