There is the kind and correct type made for your build year version MacBook;

whichever exact one it is. There are no substitutes; they should be authentic.

You may use a higher output capacity than original, if available; or 85W. The

other requirement includes correct connector (MagSafe 2) not earlier version.

Any device that will successfully charge your MacBook Pro must support USB Power Delivery protocol for charging devices up to 100 watts. The charger must be able to negotiate BOTH a higher Voltage and a higher current than the old-fashioned 5 Volt USB-2 charging that can recharge your phone.

A 12 Volt charger is also inadequate, as your MacBook Pro asks for 16 to 18 Volts.

The best device to do that negotiating and charging is a genuine Apple power adapter, at least as powerful as the one that came with your computer.
