Migration Assistant Not Working

Can’t get Migration Assistant to work

I’m trying to use Migration Assistant to transfer from iMac to a new MacBook Air, via WiFi, but the screens show either the old iMac is not discoverable or, occasionally when the 2 “connect,” the transfer doesn’t happen.

Ive spent hours, including 3 chats with Apple Support, but still nothing gets transferred.

Don't use Wi-Fi, it is the slowest method and will take forever if it completes at all. The fastest and best way to transfer is from a Time Machine backup connected directly to your new Mac. Second best is ethernet connection between the two Macs. It's alright to stop the transfer and then reconnect via another method and start the transfer again, it will not transfer the same data twice.
