I received an email regarding my apple ID being blocked and need to unblock it. Do I really need to provide my social security with all my personal information?

That email is fake. Forward it to reportphishing@apple.com as an attachment and then delete it.
If your Apple ID had actually been locked, you'd have been told when you tried to log into it.
