My Mac running High Sierra is unable to find Airport Express 2nd generation in airport utility.

I have the AE setup in client mode (I use for remote printing) and am able to "find" it in airport utility when using File > Configure Other (but it doesn't save the info and appear as a wifi device connected to the network. When I manually configure and apply changes, it is resetting the AE (so there is 2-way communication).

The AE has a solid green light and I can see it without an issue in airport utility on my old MacBook (running Mountain lion or something considerably older than high Sierra) and on my iPhone XR. This is only an issue on the iMac. I checked that the latest version of airport utility is running on the iMac. Any ideas what is causing this problem?

The AirPort Utility requires both the Bonjour & IPv6 IP protocols in order to locate an AirPort base station.

I suggest that you check the IPv6 setting on your Mac to see that it is configured for, at least, "IPv6 Link-local only" mode. To do so, go to System Preferences > Network > (Wi-Fi or Ethernet, depending on how you connect your Mac to your local network) > Advanced > TCP/IP tab > Configure IPv6: IPv6 Link-local only

Note that your Mac should have a "local" IPv6 address, one starting with "fe80," if configured properly.
