Format Used External Hard Drive
I would like to know how to reformat an external hard drive that has been previously formatted for Windows.

Use Disk Utility and erase/format it Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and GUID partition scheme.
Thank you but it tells me Erase process has failed.
It also says couldn't unmount disk. Is there another way to format the disk?
Boot into recovery and use Disk Utility from there. That should work.
Thank you. Is there somewhere I can find instructions to boot into recovery?
