Can I watch a DVD on my iPad 6 while the disc plays on my MacBook Pro?

I don't have a digital copy of a movie, only a DVD, but I want to watch the movie on my iPad rather than my computer. Is this possible? Watching movies on my computer is cumbersome because my MacBook Pro doesn't have an internal disc drive. Is there a way to use Airplay or something to do this? I don't see my iPad listed in Airplay. Thank you for your help.

iPad, iOS 12

Thank you very much for your reply, however, this information doesn't apply because it refers to transferring the video from your device to Apple TV. I saw this page, but decided that it doesn't address my question. I would like to watch a movie on my iPad using the signal from the DVD playing on my MacBook Pro. Apple devices are so interconnected these days that I thought this might be possible, but perhaps it isn't.
