Start Up failure

Has been working fine for years, couldn't get it to connect to internet, so I turned it off and back on. The Apple shows up and it starts to upload the programs, then stalls. Tried numerous times, even unplugged it for awhile hope to get it going

First try resetting the NVRAM per the directions in How to reset NVRAM on your Mac . If that does not work try restarting in Safe Mode per the directions in Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support . If that does not work then attempt to restart in the Recovery Partition (Command + R on startup) and open Disk Utility and run First Aid 2- 3 times back to back. If any errors appear that means the HD is damaged and needs replacing.
